One of the last great Hollywood taboos is admitting to having work done. Whether it's just a little jab of Botox or a more severe cosmetic procedure like breast implants or a face lift, stars have long since been going under the needle and the knife in complete denial. But times are changing, and a handful of brave celebrities are opening up about their experiences—both good and bad—with plastic surgery and cosmetic injectables.
"For me, everyone says, 'Oh my gosh, she's had her third face transplant,' but I've had one nose job," Kardashian admitted during the KUWTK series finale reunion. "And everyone gets so upset, like, why don't I talk about it. No one's ever asked me." On her talk show Kocktails With Khloe, the star also admitted to having facial fillers dissolved. "My face was so fucked I had to go and get this whole thing dissolved," she said. "It was a bummer and now I'm afraid to do it again. And I'm almost like, I swear things are still in my face."
"It is true that I look artificial, but I believe that I'm totally real," Parton told CBS Sunday Morning back in 2019. "My look is really based on a country girl's idea of glam. I wasn't naturally pretty, so I make the most of anything I've got." The country legend has admitted to a few cosmetic procedures, including breast implants, a brow lift, and eyelid surgery.
Williams has long been an open book about cosmetic tweaks, admitting to both regular doses of Botox and multiple Ultherapy sessions. "It hurt like hell the first time I did it and I swore I would never do it again, but three months later my makeup artist asked what I did and said my face was really tight and looked great," she told New Beauty in 2018.
The Oscar-winning actress opened up about trying Botox back in 2015. "I have done Botox and I LOVED it [but] I've done it when I know there is a big gap [between roles]," she said according to The Mirror. "I didn't tell my husband and then for about six months he kept saying, 'Hello, Pretty!'"
"I've done lasers and got [filler] injections under my eyes for the hollowing — which I'd recommend for everyone who wants a solution for their dark circles — but all of my assets are real, Perry told Refinery29. "People tend to think they are fake, but it doesn't really matter."
"Fifty five and smiling from the inside out...finally back to the original 1964," Yolanda Hadid wrote in an Instagram caption. "Living in a body free of breast implants, fillers, botox, extensions and all the bullshit I thought I needed in order to keep up with what society conditioned me to believe what a sexy woman should look like until the toxicity of it all almost killed me," she wrote. Hadid has previously spoken out about how she stopped getting Botox injections and dermal fillers years ago after being diagnosed with Lyme.
Ariel Winter had a breast reduction to ease unnecessary pain—but she won't stand for social media trolls accusing her of going under the knife for more than just that. “You’re also wrong about all of it by the way 🙂 one breast reduction and I lost weight but you do you boo," she commented back to a follower who accused her multiple surgeries.
In a 2013 cover story interview with InStyle, the singer opened about a small cosmetic tweak. “A doctor I see, [Beverly Hills plastic surgeon] Dr. [Raj] Kanodia, does fun stuff to me sometimes—I’ve had lip injections before,” she said.
Supermodel Cindy Crawford admits to having shots of Botox in the past. "I’m not going to lie to myself, past a certain age, creams work on the texture of your skin but, in order to restore elasticity, all I can really count on is vitamin injections, botox, and collagen," she told InStyle Magazine. "I have a very simple, healthy life, which works miracles. I drink a lot of water, watch what I eat, and exercise… but I owe the quality of my skin to my cosmetic surgeon.”
The superstar has been vocal about her choice to undergo various plastic surgery treatments in the past. In addition to a breast augmentation, Cardi B admitted in an interview to getting illegal injections in her butt. "In order to get lipo, where they put the fat transfer in your ass and it gets bigger, you need to have fat. I did not have no type of fat," she said. "But I was desperate to have a bigger ass."
"I use organic products, but I get lasers. It's what makes life interesting, finding the balance between cigarettes and tofu. I've probably tried everything," Paltrow told BAZAAR in 2013. "I would be scared to go under the knife, but you know, talk to me when I'm 50. I'll try anything. Except I won't do Botox again, because I looked crazy. I looked like Joan Rivers!"
"I did try Botox, unfortunately, but I got out of it and now I can finally move my face again," Kidman told La Repubblica, reported by The Huffington Post, in January 2013.
"I had an armpit sucked out, which was one of the best things," Teigen told Refinery29 in May 2017. "It's a big secret, but I don't care. It was nine years ago or so. And I had two inches to my armpit. Now it's back though, so now I've gotta pay for [liposuction] again. It was so easy. It made me feel better in dresses, I felt more confident. It was the dumbest, stupidest thing I've ever done. The dumbest, but I like it, whatever. I have no regrets, honestly."
In 2019, Teigen also announced via an Instagram post that she would be removing her breast implants. "They’ve been great to me for many years but I’m just over it. I’d like to be able to zip a dress in my size, lay on my belly with pure comfort! No biggie!" she explained. "So don’t worry about me! All good. I’ll still have boobs, they’ll just be pure fat. Which is all a tit is in the first place. A dumb, miraculous bag of fat."
"I have had breast implants, but it's so funny 'cause it's not a secret, I could care less," Kardashian told Nightline in May 2010.
"I'm not against plastic surgery. I've only been under [anesthesia] once before, when I went to the dentist and I didn't react well; it really scared me," the makeup mogul wrote on her eponymous app back in 2016. "I threw up and I was SO nauseous the next day. But as of now, I only have lip fillers...But I'm also someone who says 'never say never.' If, down the line, I get to a point where I'm really uncomfortable with something on my body, I'm not against changing it."
"I love them so much I had to talk about them...I'd feel better not to have some secret. It's much freer to say it and then you don't have to worry someone will dig it up," the rapper told E! about her breast augmentation back in March 2015.
Jessica Simpson wasn't a fan of lip injections. "I had that Restylane stuff. It looked fake to me. I didn't like that," Simpson admitted to Glamour in 2006. "But it went away in, like, four months. My lips are back to what they were. Thank God!"
After breaking her nose not once but twice, the former Glee star went under the knife to get it corrected, according to an interview with David Letterman back in 2011.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star told People back in 2010 that she had a nose job, liposuction, and breast implants with a lift. "I still wanted to look like NeNe, the black woman that I am, but a better version," she said.
The Big Bang Theory star told Women's Health that she had a nose job, breast augmentation ("the best thing I ever did," she said), and a round of fillers. "As much as you want to love your inner self, I’m sorry, you also want to look good," she said. "I don’t think you should do it for a man or anyone else, but if it makes you feel confident, that’s amazing."
"I’ve had all my fillers dissolved. I’m as natural as I can be. I feel better because I look like myself," Cox told New Beauty in June 2017. "I think that I now look more like the person that I was. I hope I do. Things are going to change. Everything’s going to drop. I was trying to make it not drop, but that made me look fake. You need movement in your face, especially if you have thin skin like I do. Those aren’t wrinkles—they’re smile lines. I’ve had to learn to embrace movement and realize that fillers are not my friend."
The model opened up about trying Xeomin for frown lines and Ultherapy for for her neck and chest to People in October 2017. " "I wondered if people would think I’m phony and fake," she said. "But it’s better to be honest and say, 'Yeah, this is what I do.'"
The High School Musical star had a rhinoplasty in 2007 to fix a deviated septum. "I didn’t do this because I believe in plastic surgery. I did this to help my health. I literally almost could not breathe out of the right side of my nose,” Tisdale told People. “I want my fans to know the truth. I’m not someone who is going to act like I had nothing done. I just want to be honest because my fans are everything to me.”
The star of The Middle had a tummy tuck and breast reduction in 2003. "It's better to be honest if you can. There is a lot in Hollywood that is not as it seems," Heaton told People at the time. "I had four C-sections and my stomach looked like the map of the world. My breasts were hanging down to here from breastfeeding those babies, and my nipples were like platters. I wanted to fit into the gowns that I finally got to wear.”
The Friends star called her rhinoplasty at the age of 16 "life-altering" in a 2013 interview with The Saturday Evening Post. "I went from, in my mind, hideous, to not hideous. I did it the summer before going to a new high school," she said. "So there were plenty of people who wouldn’t know how hideous I looked before. That was a good, good, good change."
"I've done it all. I've had a little plastic surgery. I've had a little lipo. I've had a little Botox. And you know what? None of it works. None of it," the actress admitted back in 2002 in an interview with The Telegraph.
In a groundbreaking New York Times Op-ed, the actress spoke about her decision to undergo a preventative double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. "Nine weeks later, the final surgery is completed with the reconstruction of the breasts with an implant. There have been many advances in this procedure in the last few years, and the results can be beautiful," she wrote.
The matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner clan documented a facelift on Keeping up with the Kardashians in 2011. She said she got the procedure before her daughter Kim Kardashian's second wedding.
Cher has never been shy about discussing plastic surgery—but she won't admit to work she hasn't done. "If I'd had as much plastic surgery as they [say], you know, like I've got ass implants and calf implants and cheek implants," the music legend told ABC in 2002."I've had the same cheeks my entire life. No butt lifts. No ribs removed. If I want to put my tits on my back, it's nobody's business but my own," she said.
"I wanted to get breast implants when I was 18, but my mom and Beyoncé's mom told me to really think about it first," the former Destiny's Child singer told Shape magazine. "I took their advice and waited 10 years."
Robin Wright loves Botox and isn't afraid to admit it. "Everybody fucking does it," she told the Telegraph in 2014. "I suppose I can't say 'everybody' because I don't know for sure, but come on. It's just the tiniest sprinkle of Botox twice a year. I think most women do 10 units, but that freezes the face and you can't move it. This is just one unit, and it's just sprinkled here and there to take the edge off... Perhaps it's not wise to put that in a magazine? But I ain't hiding anything."
"I was the first person to ever admit that I did Botox, and my Mom was upset," Evangelista told BAZAAR.com. "I said, 'Mom everybody does it,' and she was like, 'Yeah but they don't say it.' So if I was the first one to tell the truth about using it then, why would I lie about it now?"
"I got Botox because people kept saying 'Are you okay?' and I'm like, 'I'm fine, why?'" Ripa told Michael Strahan, her Live co-host in 2015. 'You look like you're angry.' I was like, 'Then it's time to get Botox.'"
In 2010, the acting legend candidly wrote about plastic surgery on her blog: "Bob Evans complimented me on my new, short haircut, and I said: 'Thanks. I just had some 'work' done on my chin and neck and had the bags taken away from under my eyes so I decided it would be good to get a new hair cut so people will think it's my new hair.' He thought that was so funny he actually toasted me for doing what he said he'd never heard anyone do before: admit they'd had work done. I was planning on blogging about it anyway, so who cares? Now, I look more like how I feel. I'm glad I did it."
The model told the Ladies' Home Journal back in 2010 that she tried Botox but is fearful to do more. "I want laser treatment because I'm not a fan of my wrinkles. But I have to find someone with a light touch. I'm scared I'll end up looking like the Joker," she said.
The comedienne wrote candidly about trying lip injections and getting a breast augmentation in her book Unqualified. “I started getting lip injections in my upper lip. I did it for a little bit and I noticed a small difference, but no one else ever said anything. I kept wondering if anybody else even noticed.” She eventually stopped getting injections after a friend commented on them. Her role as a Playboy bunny in The House Bunny inspired her to get her breasts done shortly after marrying then-husband Chris Pratt.
"Yeah I got my nose fixed," Love told Jimmy Kimmel on his show in 2014. "In six months, the whole world changed.
